Jubilee and New Additions at CPO
Wow - 30 years at CPO!
Thomas is an institution for CPO colleagues, service providers and clients. It is hard to describe this many years in the congress industry more beautifully than he does:
"Today, my first day at work. The exciting task was to collect brochures at the ITB (World's largest tourism fair in Berlin). My companion accompanied me to the ICC, then I was left to my own devices. That was exactly 30 years ago.
What have I experienced during this time? A technical revolution from telex to tablets, from laying down kilometres of cable at the congress sites to using WLAN nowadays. Loyal service providers have become friends that have helped me along the way.

Setting up a counter with 26 computer workstations will remain an unforgettable experience for me. The congress participants received their congress bags directly from the logistics provider’s containers. My cash settlements went on until 2.30 a.m. that night. A lot of water has flowed down the Spree, Elbe, Danube, Seine, Thames, Tagus, the mouth of the Pearl River or the Riddarfjärden... and where ever else we went. I have been fortunate to have had contact with numerous (congress) presidents, as well as a real emperor. During the congress in Kyoto, I would have loved to stash “Who wants to be a millionaire?” in a corner - who receives 7.6 million in cash in one day!
I have learned so many things at our congresses, especially about the medical sector. There were congresses that affected me significantly after I understood the content. But we were also able to cover a broad spectrum - foresters, spear throwers, lawyers, small animal breeders, magicians and the ESA, have been among our clients. No, we haven’t held a congress on the moon yet (would certainly be exciting and appealing, but wouldn’t we need a carnet to transport our hardware?). It was the company that produces the extremely "healthy" things: the European Snack Association.
I’ve seen many employees come and go. Friendships have also developed during this time. I am still in contact with one colleague from my very first hour at this company. There will be a time after COVID-19. Let's toast to my time here at CPO, either with a glass on the terrace or at our favourite Italian restaurant.“
